Rudra means Shiva, the destroyer of all sins.It is extremely important as a ritual. It is considered to be one of the finest, purest and compelling ritual in Hinduism. The stream of water is very dear to Lord Shiva and therefore abhishek is done by worshiping the Shivling, Shiva is anointed with water or Panchamrit and the paths of Rudra are laid by the pundits, this is called Rudra Abhishek. Rudra Abhishek is most dear to Shiva, and doing it in the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga region destroys all sins, and Shiva fulfills all desires.
In Jal Abhishek, Lord Omkareshwar is anointed with chanting of mantras., this is subtle kind of Rudra Abhishek. Samanya Abhishek at Omkareshwar Temple region is performed by Maa Narmada’s holy water.

Panchamrit Rudrabhishek puja is paramount. Lord Shiva, in the Panchamrit Rudrabhishek puja, is worshipped by giving him a sacred bath along with Panchamra; and the Path of 5th and 8th adyas of Rudra is recited. The name of the fifth chapter is Namak as it has namah many a times in it. Similarly, the eighth chapter is Chamak as the word chhame is there several times. And that is why Panchamrit Rudra Abhishek is also called as Namak Chamak Abhishek. Panchamrat holds a special dignity in Ethology(शास्त्र) and is believed to be nectar. All the five elements of panchamrat have their own qualities as well as spiritual aspects. This 5 elements have been given very significant place in worshipping.

Lord Shiva is pleased to be anointed with Panchamrit. With the Panchamrit anointing with the waters of the pilgrimage area, one attains moksya.

Omkareshwar Temple is a Jyotirlinga temple situated on the holy island built by Shiva’s daughter Narmada and Parvati, it is a Swayambhu Linga.. Of the 12 Jyotirlingas, Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is the most revered.
It is strongly believed that in Jyotirlinga region there is no barrier of date and constellation to perform Abhishek.
Significance of worship at Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga region
Om (ॐ) is considered one of the most sacred and significant mantras across various ancient Indian texts, including the four Vedas, 18 Puranas, and numerous Shastras. Its impact transcends across time and space, as it is believed to be the sound that symbolizes the beginning and end of the universe.
The resonating sound of Omkar echoes across India, but there is a place of unique significance where the sacred rivers of Narmada and Kaveri converge to form an island of Om Aakar (Om sizes), referred to as Omkareshwar. Lord Omkareshwar and Maa Parvati reside on this island with their divine family and 33 koti deities.
The circumambulation of Omkareshwar is of great importance and every worship performed here holds paramount significance. It is believed that all wishes of a seeker are fulfilled through worship performed on this sacred land.
